The Judicial Police (PJ), through the Northern Board, announced Monday that it had arrested a 55-year-old man for allegedly carrying out a forest fire crime in Penafiel.
According to PJ, the fire occurred on Friday at 11:45 am “having endangered a large forest area and several dwellings, whose spread could only be avoided with the rapid intervention of firefighters.”
The detainee was present to the judicial authorities for the first judicial interrogation, being forced to present weekly at the police station in the area of residence.
Since the beginning of the year, the PJ has identified and arrested 44 people for the crime of forest fire.
