The GNR Coastal Control (UCC) that has been deployed to the European Agency for the Management of Operational Cooperation at the External Borders of the Member States of the European Union (FRONTEX), Greece, returned to Portugal on 2nd November.
The unit was based on the island of Chios – Greece from April 1 and October 31, with the aim of preventing, detecting and stopping illegal immigration, trafficking in human beings, drug trafficking, helping to safeguard human lives at sea.
The GNR unit travelled 3,061 kilometers on land patrolling actions, and detected a total of 309 migrants.
