The National Republican Guard (GNR) intensified last week, 12-18th September enforcement action concerning against drivers failing to observe seat belt and child restraint systems (CRS) laws.
During the operation they checked over seven thousand vehicles and detected 400 violations for failure or improper use of safety belts and / or CRS.
The failure to use restraint systems is one of the main causes of serious road accidents (with death and serious injury) in Portugal, together with speeding and driving under the influence of alcohol. The GNR has intensified actions to reduce the number of road accident victims.
