Membership

Associação SCP Safe Communities Portugal (SCP) welcomes new members who are interested and able to help the community in crime prevention and maintaining Portugal as a safe place to live and visit. We are keen to harness the skills and experience of those in the community to help others in the community. This may not necessarily be in the field of crime prevention, but can range from administrative to organizational skills and experience. We are keen to involve all cultures as Portugal, fully embraces all nationalities in a multi cultural environment. Members of our current Board and Fiscal Council are of five different nationalities with a diverse range of background and experience.

How to become a member

Any existing member may propose an applicant for membership. For anyone who is interested in joining but does not know a member please contact the Association using the contacts page on this website, so we can find out about how you can help.

Membership is open to anyone resident, or non-resident with genuine interest(s) in Portugal, regardless of nationality.

Award of membership

Membership is considered based on the following criteria:

  • Has previously held, or is currently holding a professional or community position.
  • Prepared to give up time to assist in community work
  • Is keen to support the police in their efforts to combat crime
  • Support the aims and work of Safe Communities Portugal

Subject to the Board’s approval the applicant will be invited by the Board to become a member.

Benefits of membership

The main benefit of membership is being part of a unique association dedicated to helping the community through crime prevention. Other benefits include voting at the General Assembly and eligibility for election to the Board and Fiscal Council.
