According to the District Relief Operations Command (CDOS) of Santarém, the fire that started in Carvalhal, Espite parish, on Friday at 2:40 pm, reactivated again this afternoon, after having already been given, twice, as in resolution.

“The reactivation took place near Caxarias. The means were immediately made available to the site. Firefighting is progressing favorably,” a source from CDOS de Santarém told Lusa.

The same source added that the fire has been close to the houses, but the operatives are on site defending the houses.

The “unrestricted” movement of trains on the northern line, which had been cut off due to the reactivation of the Ourém fire, was re-established at 8:12 pm, an official source from Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) told Lusa this Sunday.

NORTHERN RAILWAY LINE CUT DUE TO RURAL FIRE

Railway circulation on the Northern Line is currently cut between Fátima and Albergaria, due to the reactivation of the fire between Caxarias, in the municipality of Ourém, district of Santarém, and Albergaria, in the district of Aveiro.

In a reply sent to the Lusa agency, Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) states that, since 15:18, “the circulation of the North Line, in both lanes, between Fátima and Albergaria, has been suspended, due to the reactivation of the fire [which is raging].between Albergaria and Caxarias.

Contacted by Lusa, an official source from CP said that the trains that were in circulation on the Northern Line “are stopped” and that those that were about to leave, namely from Lisbon and Porto, remain at the respective stations, until there is authorization for them to leave.

CP also said that it is already “considering road transfer”.

The fire is raging in several locations and dozens of people have been forced to leave their homes.

At least 50 people were removed from their homes today, as a precaution, the mayor, Luís Albuquerque, told Lusa.

“We are talking about a very dispersed territory, with houses very dispersed in the middle of the forest, and as a matter of precaution we understand it is good to evacuate some houses, anticipating that the fire could get close to these houses.
