Northern Irishman who stabbed friend to death in Albufeira

A 30-year-old Northern Irishman, suspected of having killed a friend, this Monday, April 25, in an apartment in a tourist resort in Albufeira, has been arrested.

The crime took place in the early hours of Monday.

According to the Judiciary Police (PJ), it was possible to establish that the victim, a 22-year-old young man, also British, “was attacked using a white weapon”.

Death was eventually declared on the spot.

The detainee, unemployed and already referenced for the practice of violent crimes, will know today the coercive measures.

The investigation is supervised by the DIAP of Albufeira.

Preventive arrest for suspected bank robbers in the Algarve

The Faro Court decreed the preventive detention of a man suspected of bank robberies, detained by the Judiciary Police (PJ) as part of an investigation into these crimes, was released today.

In a statement, the PJ said that the 40-year-old man of Portuguese nationality is suspected of the practice of bank robberies that took place in the eastern Algarve, one of which took place this month.

 “Following the communication made by the PSP, it was possible to gather sufficient evidence to attribute to the defendant a robbery and an attempt carried out in the present month of April”, reads the note from the PJ.

 The detainee, with a criminal record for the same type of activity, was presented to the competent Judicial Authority in Faro, which determined the coercive measure of preventive detention, adds the PJ.

The investigation, supervised by the Department of Investigation and Criminal Action (DIAP) of Faro, continues to be carried out by the PJ, “aiming at the defendant’s relationship with other facts”, is also mentioned in the note.

On Thursday morning, an ABANCA bank branch in the center of Faro was robbed, and the amount taken by the robber, who managed to escape, is unknown.

SEF detains foreigner wanted for rape of minors in Faro

The Foreigners and Borders Service (SEF) detained in Faro a foreign citizen wanted in Italy for rape of minors, the body announced today, underlining the fulfilment of an arrest warrant for extradition issued by the Italian authorities.

According to the SEF note sent to the media, the operation was reported to the SIRENE National Office and the Évora Court of Appeal, where it was presented to a judge, who confirmed the detention and applied the coercive measure of preventive detention.

The individual was later taken to the Lisbon Prison, where he will await his extradition to Italy.

The operation of SEF elements took place on Friday morning, which began by locating and identifying the foreign citizen, after “analysis of an application for a residence permit in which the European arrest warrant for extradition was detected”.
