Covid-19 update

There were no new Covid-19 cases today. The number of cases in Madeira stands at 90, with 81 recoveries and 9 active cases. The patient who was identified as a positive case at Madeira Airport remains in isolation at a dedicated hotel.

There are 412 people under active monitoring and 206 in self-monitoring. As of yesterday, there had been 1,543 suspected cases, 1,453 of which had come back negative.

As for Covid-19 testing, 16,119 samples from 14,669 people have been analysed at Laboratório de Patologia Clínica do SESARAM (Madeira Health Service lab). Testing is also being carried out on staff from the health, civil protection and
social services.

The SRS 24 helpline (Regional Health Service – 800 24 24 20) received 37 calls from Wednesday to Thursday, bringing the total number of calls to 8,231. So far, the Covid-19 mental health helpline (219 212 399 – available every day from
9h00 to 21h00) that was set up to provide emotional and mental support to Madeira residents has received 1,134 calls, with 127 people being monitored.

New reopening measures announced

From Saturday, places of worship will no longer have a
maximum capacity of 1/3. Instead, they will be allowed to have a maximum capacity of 50%, while keeping the usual sanitary measures.

From Monday, indoor swimming pools will reopen for club swimmers. Gyms and indoor sports facilities can also reopen. These sporting activities must be carried out in compliance with the following guidance:

a) Submission of a contingency plan to IASAÚDE, IP-RAM and Direção Regional de Desporto

b) Ensure all people connected to the relevant sports comply with the contingency plan

c) The sporting infrastructures must comply with the contingency plan

d) The use of changing rooms is forbidden

e) Sporting equipment must not be shared between sportspeople, without being disinfected

f) Sportspeople and staff must use the relevant personal protection equipment

g) Increased cleaning and disinfection of surfaces and equipment

New Habeas Corpus application in Funchal

Another young passenger has submitted a Habeas Corpus application against spending mandatory quarantine in a hotel. The student and Herberto Jesus, the president of IASAÚADE (Instituto da Administração da Saúde – Health Administration
Institute) testified at a court in Funchal. The passenger, who had landed at Funchal Airport on the 29th of May, is in quarantine at Hotel Vila Galé, in Santa Cruz. The result of his Covid-19 test is expected to be known today. The
court case will continue today.

Volunteer group praised for its work

Miguel Albuquerque, the President of the Madeira Regional Government, thanked the volunteer group “Hotelaria Madeira ajuda a nossa Ilha” (Madeira Hotels help our island) for its vital work during the state of emergency. The volunteers
were staff from Madeira hotels and in April and May they helped to provide meals, food, masks, gloves and disinfection products to people in need.
