Brief Covid-19 update

On April 25th, there were 35 patients hospitalised in the general Covid-19 unit (8 non-vaccinated, 10 fully vaccinated, 17 vaccinated with a booster shot), and no hospitalised patients in the Covid-19 intensive care unit. As for the age of the hospitalised patients who are in the general Covid-19 unit, 9 are aged 18-65 and 26 are 65 or older.

There were 6 deaths from April 17th to April 25th. There had been a total of 267 deaths.

Mandatory use of face masks in indoor spaces might end in the middle of May

Miguel Albuquerque, President of the Madeira Regional Government, repeated his view that the mandatory use of face masks in indoor spaces might end in the middle of May. He explained this will depend on the evolution of the Covid-19 situation, and will likely mean face masks remaining mandatory only in care homes and health care units. The priority is to proceed carefully.

15 flights diverted on Monday morning

A total of 15 flights from a wide-range of cities in Europe were diverted on Tuesday morning, as a result difficult weather conditions in Funchal. The only flight that managed to land in Funchal between 09h30 and 13h00 had been a TAP flight from Lisbon.

Madeira restored 85% of air traffic

Thierry Ligonnière, the CEO of ANA, informed that Madeira has so far recovered restored 85% of flights in the first 3 months of the year, in comparison with 2019. He highlighted the diversification of routes as a result of the effort to encourage new airlines to fly to the Region. He also informed that the bidding process has started for renovation work at Porto Santo Airport.

 Water supply disruption

The Municipality of Funchal informed there will be a water supply disruption TONIGHT in several areas in São Roque, between 21h00 and 03h00 (Thursday). The list of areas that will be affected is available on the following website:

Power cut

Empresa de Electricidade da Madeira (Madeira power supplier) announced there will be power cuts due to scheduled work on the electricity supply network. These cannot be postponed and will take place in the following days and places:
