Rules on visiting patients at Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça

Visit Funchal

He recent increase in Covid-19 cases has led to the implementation of stronger safety measures at Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça. From November 15th, only 1 relative is allowed to visit a patient who is hospitalised in the general ward, while the special rules for visiting patients in specialist wards will remain the same. These are in addition to the need to present proof of a negative Covid-19 test.
The Madeira Health Service (SESARAM) stressed that there is no Covid-19 outbreak at Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça. It explained that an RT-PCR Covid-19 test is carried out on every patient who becomes hospitalised. The same test is then carried out between the 5th and 7th day of hospitalisation. Whenever a hospitalised patient tests positive for Covid-19, the Contingency Plan is implemented, which includes moving the infected patient to a dedicated area.
