Maritime Police seize 810 kilos of fish in Vila do Porto

Elements of the Local Command of the Maritime Police of Vila do Porto, on the island of Santa Maria, seized 810 kg of bigeye tuna, during an inspection carried out on the unloading of fish in that port.

According to a statement from the National Maritime Authority, “during this action, members of the Maritime Police inspected several vessels that were unloading fish, having detected a vessel that exceeded its discharge quota by 810 kg, corresponding to 29 units of fish”.

The Maritime Police prepared the respective report, “having proceeded to the seizure of surplus bigeye tuna, which will be sold at auction, with the value reverting to the benefit of the process”.

Two members of the Local Command of the Vila do Porto Maritime Police were involved in this action.

Arrest for allegedly committing the crime of currency counterfeiting.

A man was arrested “in flagrante delicto” in Graciosa, suspected of the crime of counterfeiting currency, with “99 counterfeit 20-euro notes being seized”, revealed the PSP.

According to a press release from the Regional Command of the Azores of the PSP, the arrest of the 36-year-old man occurred when the suspect tried to buy “goods in a commercial establishment, on the island of Graciosa, with false notes”.

The PSP, after intercepting the suspect, carried out searches of the suspect’s vehicle and residence and seized “two weapons, one unregistered firearm and the other compressed air”, and “99 counterfeit 20-euro notes”.
