On 6th September the GNR Protection and Rescue Intervention Group (GIPS), in collaboration with the Military Territorial Office of Geres, rescued a man of 77 years lost in the Vale da Teixeira.
The man set out on foot from Leonte ending in Vila do Geres – Vilar da Veiga, a distance of 22 kms with a high level of difficulty. Without proper physical preparation for the trail, the man tried to follow the course of a stream but eventually get lost. The hotel where he was staying gave an alert.
Some 23 hours later they found the man who was physically weak and showing signs of fatigue, dehydration and a slight cut in the leg. They provided first aid, as well as a meal. The victim was sent to the Red Cross of Rio Caldo.
