An abandoned suitcase near the Bank of Portugal and the statue of João Gonçalves Zarco in Funchal, on 24th November, led to the evacuation of Golden Gate coffee bar and the closure of the surrounding streets.
According to the “Diario de Notícias da Madeira”, it was a false alarm.
The suspected case was examined by the Public Security Police (PSP) brigade, which did not make any statements on the matter.
The incident was responded to by several elements of the police and the bomb disposal unit, as well as elements of the firefighters Sapadores of Funchal.
